The screening activities in the four therapeutic areas have produced novel lead molecules:
NPIL’s lead molecule in Oncology, P276, belongs to a novel class of anticancer agents called Cdk4 inhibitors. Cdk4 is a protein molecule involved in the regulation of the cell cycle and cell proliferation, and has been implicated in mechanisms that cause cancer. P276 is currently in Phase I/II clinical trials being carried out in Canada and India.
In Inflammation, the R&D group has identified a lead molecule, which is now undergoing further optimization and preclinical development.
A second lead candidate in Inflammation is an oral Herbal product, whose safety and efficacy is being evaluated in two Phase II clinical trials in India.
In the field of Infectious
diseases, an anti-fungal Herbal product is currently in Phase II clinical trials in India.
A highly potent antibiotic drug candidate- active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin resistant Enterococcus (VRE) is in late preclinical development.
The Diabetes team is evaluating non-PPAR-g targets for diabetes, focusing on insulin resistance and insulin sensitization, and has identified several potential his by screening directly for adipogenesis.
