1980 – M. B. B. S Medical Degree – University of Bombay

1984 – D.I.M College of Physicians & Surgeons, Industrial Medicine Bombay.

1992 – MPH Master of Public Health (Harvard, USA).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

As Director of Nicholas Piramal, looking into Research and Development, Strategic Alliances, Communication, Knowledge Management, Public Policy, responsible for starting and leading the team for Strategic Research Planning, Discovery Research, Chemical Process Development for discovering new Drug Delivery Systems, Clinical Research, Planning and Implementation of a new Clinical Research Organisation.


Medical Services

Dr. Piramal headed the task force for creating a new entry into Medical Services, to set up a national diagnostic network of pathology laboratories, to provide world-class diagnostic services to the consumer.


Regulations and Legislation

Dr. Piramal was a Member of the Committee set up by Shri Yashwant Sinha to transform India into a Knowledge Power. Dr. Piramal has written papers on Drugs Price Control, Biotechnology Regulation on Biosimilars, and various issues of national importance. Dr. Piramal wrote a paper on Data Protection Laws in 2000 to help influence India’s positions. Another position paper on Patentability has been published in 2007.

Acquired and set up new pathology laboratories across India, (Piramal Diagnostics) to be part of a chain offering PCR/Histopathology/Immunological specialized tests.


ACHIEVEMENTS

Founded the Gopikrishna Piramal Memorial Hospital in 1983, a charitable Hospital with services for the under-privileged. Helps treatment of Physically Handicapped children.

Started the new Sports Sciences Wing at the Hospital, with a High Tech Human Performance Laboratory.

Co-Author of “Eat your Way to Good Health, along with Mrs. Tarla Dalal. Also Co-author of “Diet & Nutrition Guide for Patients with Renal Disease and Related Disorders,” along with Dr. V. N. Acharya.

Co-author of “Light has come to Me,” a book about the management lessons of The Bhagwad Gita, published by the Times Group. Dance Opera – the Dance of Life premiered in Mumbai in 2004. Stories of ancient Indian Sciences through dance – starred Mrinalini and Mallika Sarabhai.

Prime Minister has nominated Dr. Piramal Member on the Board of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Expert Member of the Planning Commission, Govt. of India.

Dr. Piramal has received the award “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite ‘ (Knight of the Order of Merit) in 2006, from the French President Mr. Jacques Chirac.

Awarded the BMA Management Woman Achiever of the Year Award (2004-05).

Nominated one of the 25 most powerful women in India, thrice in succession from 2002 till 2005.

Recipient of the “Lakshmipat Singhania-IIM, Lucknow National Leadership Award,”in the category of Young Leader in the field of Science and Technology for the year 2006l from the Prime Minister of India.

Dr. Piramal has received the Chemtech Pharma Award : for “Outstanding Contributions” in PHARMA + biotech Industries. 

In 2007, received the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Outstanding Woman Achiever by Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. 

National Technology Day – Distinguished Scientist Oration 2008 by Ministry of Science & Technology.
